3/1/15: I often think of my life in this phrase. According to UrbanDictionary.com this is a term "used to describe an area, room, etc. which looks extremely messy, but the owner knows exactly where everything is." With everything running fast paced around me, I have my little area of organization (maybe only in my head...but still). When working on projects I have found that I am rather organized in my thought process but if someone were to come in and try to find what I was looking for they would have no idea. My husband and I recently moved, and trying to organize our home was quite the task. I know where something is and I could probably tell someone where to find it, but if you were to look on your own it would be impossible.
1/3/14: Unpredictability must be seen more as an opportunity than as a challenge. I read this in an article on houstrends.com, but I would like to expand on this subject a little bit. The article is titled "Creative thinking turns would-be trash into ingenious treasure," which is where I would like to start my discussion. Along this journey of creating I always have an open mind. When I go into a store to find "something" sometimes I'm only looking for inspiration. If I go to a store, only to find one item then I lose an opportunity to discover something new. I think this drives my husband crazy because he is the typical guy that wants to get in and get out of the store only with what he needs and in the quickest time possible. For me I NEED to take that extra time to look at all the ends of aisles and find or discover something. If I keep my mind open to possibilities then I have the opportunity to discover something new, but I can see where this would get some people into trouble. Mainly with those that have too many projects, but who doesn't feel like they have too many projects. These days, if I don't have 2-3 projects going-on I feel like I am wasting time and I should get busy doing something else.
So, as I enter a flea market, a thrift store or a recycle store I start by looking at every corner or wall and making notes on what they have available. My mind starts working as I think about projects that I have or that I would like to start. If something is plausable or imaginable then I take it one step further. I think about the logistics, like how will I get this large cabinet home, what kind of paint or finish would I use, how much is it going to cost, will it be worth it, and what else could it be used for. By running through this process I start to create an idea. It's certainly not set in stone but it helps me create an opportunity out of something that is rather unpredictable. At the time I walked into the store I had no notion of the idea, but by the time I walk out I've got a great idea to create and perhaps something ingenious.
10/21/15: I really love wood. I mean I really do love it. I love the way it looks. I love the texture of it. I love how it looks with different types of stain. I love how it looks in the different stages of sanding. I love the versatility of it. I just really love it.
12/16/18: From the post on the Industrial table.....I didn't know what I would do with them but I knew I "needed" them. When I say "needed" them, I have this internal struggle with myself sometimes on whether or not the end product or end result is worth the struggle to get the product in the first place. It might be a really great deal, but if it takes me 2 hours drive to pick it up, is it going to be worth it. Or I think about other technical aspects of this, like where will I store something, or in this case can I physically pick the item up and is it logical for me to move it etc. My last and final check is, "will my husband join me to pick them up and put up with me getting this item." In most circumstances I would say he is all-in when it comes to supporting me, and I like having the ability to bounce ideas off from him especially when it might be a stretch. We have had some great adventures in picking up _______ (fill in the blank).
